Adeo School makes it easy to take lessons in your own home, but you'll need an appropriate practice space to make sure that you're getting all you can out of the time you spend with your instructors. Here are some tips to make it work.
If Possible, Set it Aside
Having a room set aside to practice music helps to keep you focused. Don't fill it up with other distractions and, when you're taking lessons, make sure that you have all of your various electronic devices shut down. If you're studying in the studio with an Adeo instructor, this is obviously not a problem. You may want to mix your lessons up a bit to keep it fresh. In-studio lessons can be fun ways to keep your studies fresh and it's good to go somewhere more dedicated to learning, sometimes, for a change of pace.
Sound
Make sure that the room has good sound. If you're taking lessons at home, you don't want to be in a room that's either going to absorb all the sound and make it hard for your instructor to hear and you don't want to be in a room that echoes so much that the sound is unintelligible. Make sure that you have a comfortable place to sit and that you can keep the noise from the rest of the house down.
Ask for Privacy
When you're taking studio lessons, it's easy to make sure that you get time alone to work with your instructor. When you're studying at home, it's a bit more of a challenge. Ask family members to leave you alone while you're studying. It's hard to recover from interruptions when you suffer even a momentary distraction in your studies. If possible, close the door and make sure that everyone knows that you're busy when you're working with your instructor.
Practicing
When you're practicing, it's also important to make sure that you have some time alone. For some students, it’s best for them to practice when they have the entire house to themselves. This ensures that they don't have to worry about bothering other family members when they're practicing the same phrase or technique over and over again. If you can, get the rest of the family to keep the noise down when you're practicing, as well. Though people like to think it's possible, the human brain can really only pay attention to one thing at a time. When you multitask, you're always distracted and that means your practice time isn't as productive as it should be.
Be sure that you're in the right frame of mind when you're taking a lesson or when you're practicing. You'll need to focus on what you're doing and leave all the stresses of everyday life behind for a while. This, in fact, is one of the reasons that people actually take up an instrument in the first place; it allows them to get away from their life for a while and to enjoy something challenging and with very real benefits.
